The sound of the organ would travel throughout the house when you played it on Christmas morning.

Erased photograph
4 x 6 inches
2007

Personal family snapshots erased layer by layer with a rubber eraser to expose the white base of the photo paper. The title of each piece is a memory that the photograph recalled.
On Sundays, you would take a break from house work and we would listen to Appalachian Springs together.
That summer we were apart, we met in New York and stayed in that beautiful hotel, didn't we?
You would recite the recipe for "cowboy coffee" as you were making it for us, "Fill with warm milk, add 2 tablespoons of coffee, 1 tablespoon of sugar, stir and serve."
We collected those odd trophies with our names written on old bowling pins from celebrating so many birthdays at the bowling alley.
Each morning, he would jump in the front seat of the car and go with you to the corner store to pick up the paper.
Wasn't it odd that their dog had the same birthday as us?
Weren't you worried about cutting yourself while we were carving pumpkins?
